DEDICATED TO

The Bell 47 Helicopter

GOLD MEMBER

Most people have at least seen a photograph or drawing of one at some point. For some, it is the helicopter in the TV series, M*A*S*H, starring Alan Alda. For those of us a bit older, it's the famous N975B helicopter from the late 50's TV series, Whirlybirds, piloted by Chuck Martin, played by actor Kenneth Tobey, and P.T. Moore, played by actor Craig Hill. To the soldiers in Korea, it was the "Angel of Mercy" coming to swiftly carry the wounded to life saving medical facilities. The Bell 47, in it's many incarnations, has provided life-saving and productive activities since it was first certified by the Civil Aeronautics Administration in 1946. It was the first helicopter approved for civilian use. It was also the first helicopter to be used to transmit television signals for people viewing at home.

Here are just a few links to websites and organizations connected to the Bell 47 Helicopter. You will find information, history, news, pictures, and reviews of the Bell 47 as well as models and R/C versions.

It is the goal and purpose of the Bell 47 Helicopter Association to support and preserve the history of the Bell 47, so it may continue to fly.  The association will help coordinate actions and interests among the thousands of Bell 47 flyers, owners, operators, and enthusiasts nationally and worldwide; promoting training, safety, and public interest in the Bell 47. The Association will also act as a lobby for Bell 47 needs and interests while preserving its history, facilitating communication, and camaraderie among Bell 47 people."
